Overglazes: are primarily accent products applied over a fired glaze and then kiln fired at a relatively low temperature. They are sometimes referred to as "third fire" glazes. Duncan overglazes come in two types: precious metals and lusters. When using overglazes, apply them to surfaces that are free of dust, skin oils and lotions to ensure proper adhesion. Wipe surface with rubbing alcohol prior to applying the overglaze (except when used over crackle glazes).
Metallic Overglazes:
These are actual precious metals which, when fired, yield different shades ranging from yellow gold to white gold. Metallic overglazes will assume a sheen similar to that of the underlying glaze. (For example, if the underlying glaze is glossy, the overglaze will be also.) Always apply with a brush that is designated solely for use with each specific metal overglaze to avoid contamination.
